OrangeChat is an AI receptionist for small and mid-sized businesses in the United States and Canada. It answers the business's phone calls 24/7, talks with callers in natural language, captures and qualifies leads, books appointments, transfers urgent calls to a person, and sends the owner a summary after every call. The same AI also answers website chat, SMS, and email from one inbox. ## Who it is for Service businesses that miss calls while staff are busy, on a job, or closed: home services (HVAC, plumbing, roofing, cleaning), dental and medical clinics, law firms, auto shops, salons, restaurants, and property leasing teams. ## How a call works 1. A caller dials the business. The call reaches OrangeChat either on a new number OrangeChat provides, or forwarded from the business's existing number (see [Phone number and call forwarding](https://orangechat.ai/docs/phone-number-and-forwarding)). 2. The AI greets the caller with the business's own greeting, answers questions from the business's information and knowledge base, and collects what the business asked for (name, phone number, reason for calling, plus any custom questions). 3. Depending on the business's settings, it books an appointment, sends a booking link by text, takes an order, or transfers the call to a person. 4. After the call, the owner gets a summary by email and/or SMS. The recording, transcript, and caller record appear in the dashboard. ## Where to start - Setting up a business: [Setup checklist](https://orangechat.ai/docs/setup-checklist) lists everything to have ready. - Choosing how calls reach the AI: [Phone number and call forwarding](https://orangechat.ai/docs/phone-number-and-forwarding). - Choosing a plan: [Plans and pricing](https://orangechat.ai/docs/plans-and-pricing). - What the AI can do: [Features](https://orangechat.ai/docs/features) and [Industries](https://orangechat.ai/docs/industries). - Data, recordings, and safety: [Calls, data, and safety](https://orangechat.ai/docs/calls-data-and-safety). - AI assistants helping an owner: [For AI agents](https://orangechat.ai/docs/for-ai-agents). ## Try it - Talk to the AI in your browser: https://orangechat.ai - Call the after-hours demo line: (425) 675-9859 --- # Setup checklist Source: https://orangechat.ai/docs/setup-checklist > Everything to gather before setting up an OrangeChat AI receptionist, in the order the setup page asks for it. Setup takes about 10 minutes when this information is ready. The owner signs up at https://orangechat.ai (Google or email sign-in) and fills in the **Set Up Your Business** page. Everything below can be changed later from the dashboard. ## 1. Your business - **Business name**, as callers should hear it. - **Business address.** Used for the time zone, the local area code of a new number, and answering "where are you?". - **Category**: trades, healthcare, real estate, retail, professional services, law firm, or other. - **Services description**: one or two sentences on what the business does, for example "Emergency plumbing, drain cleaning, and water heater installation." ## 2. AI voice and greeting - **Greeting**: the first sentence callers hear, for example "Thanks for calling Pro Plumbing, how can I help?" - **Voice** and **assistant name** (optional). - **Languages**: English, or English and Mandarin Chinese (Growth and Pro plans). ## 3. Business hours - Opening hours for each day of the week, and the time zone. - What happens during open hours: the AI answers every call, the business phone rings first and the AI answers only the calls nobody picks up, or calls go straight to the business phone. Outside open hours the AI answers. ## 4. Call handling and transfers - **Transfer phone number**: who should get urgent calls. - **When to transfer**: only during business hours, anytime (24/7 for emergencies), or never (the AI takes a message). ## 5. Notifications - Email address and/or mobile number that should receive call summaries and new leads. ## 6. Booking (optional) Pick one booking method: - a **booking link** (Calendly or any scheduling page) that the AI texts to callers, or - **Google Calendar**: the AI checks availability and books directly (Growth and Pro plans). ## 7. Knowledge base (recommended) Prices, service area, policies, FAQs, and anything else callers ask about. Paste text or upload documents. The AI answers only from this information and the details above; it does not make up prices or policies. ## 8. Custom questions (optional) Extra questions the AI should ask every caller, for example "Is this for a home or a business?" ## 9. Phone number Either take a new local number from OrangeChat, or keep the existing business number and forward calls to OrangeChat. See [Phone number and call forwarding](https://orangechat.ai/docs/phone-number-and-forwarding). ## 10. Plan and payment Choose a plan ([Plans and pricing](https://orangechat.ai/docs/plans-and-pricing)). New accounts start with a 14-day free trial. --- # Phone number and call forwarding Source: https://orangechat.ai/docs/phone-number-and-forwarding > How calls reach the AI receptionist — a new number, or the business's existing number with carrier call forwarding codes, including codes to turn forwarding off. Every OrangeChat business gets its own AI phone number (a local US or Canadian number). Calls reach the AI in one of two ways: - **Use the AI number directly.** Put the new number on the website and listings. - **Keep the existing business number** and forward calls from it to the AI number with a carrier dial code. No hardware or new phone line is needed. In the codes below, replace `AINUMBER` with the AI number's 10 digits (for example `6045550123`) and `+AINUMBER` with the full international form (for example `+16045550123`). The dashboard shows each code already filled in. ## Landline: ring first, the AI takes missed and busy calls Staff answer as usual; the AI answers only when nobody picks up or the line is busy. Dial both codes on the business line: | Code | Forwards when | Turn off | |---|---|---| | `*92AINUMBER` | nobody answers | `*93` | | `*90AINUMBER` | the line is busy | `*91` | If missed calls end up in voicemail instead of with the AI, ask the carrier to shorten the no-answer ring time or turn off voicemail on that line. The AI can only answer if the call forwards before voicemail picks up. ## Mobile: you answer first, the AI takes the calls you miss AT&T, T-Mobile, and most Canadian carriers: | Code | Forwards when | Turn off | |---|---|---| | `**61*+AINUMBER*11*20#` | you don't answer within 20 seconds (use 5, 10, 15, 25, or 30 instead of 20 to change the delay) | `##61#` | | `**67*+AINUMBER#` | you're on another call | `##67#` | | `**62*+AINUMBER#` | the phone is off or out of coverage | `##62#` | Verizon uses `*71AINUMBER` instead (no answer and busy; turn off with `*73`). Check what's active without changing anything: `*#61#`, `*#67#`, or `*#62#`. `##002#` clears all forwarding. Note: the iPhone **Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding** switch forwards every call. Use the dial codes above to keep your phone ringing first. ## Forward every call to the AI Your own phone won't ring; the AI takes 100% of calls. Dial `*72AINUMBER` from the business line. Turn off with `*73`. ## VoIP and business phone systems Systems such as RingCentral set call forwarding in their admin portal instead of with dial codes. Forward to the AI number there. ## Test it Call the business number from a different phone. With ring-first forwarding, let it ring out; the AI should pick up. --- # Plans and pricing Source: https://orangechat.ai/docs/plans-and-pricing > OrangeChat plans, included usage, overage, and the free trial. | Plan | Price | Voice minutes / month | AI conversations / month | SMS replies / month | English + Mandarin | Google Calendar booking | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Starter | $49/mo | 250 | 500 | 100 | No | No | | Growth | $149/mo | 1,100 | 2,000 | 500 | Yes | Yes | | Pro | $299/mo | 2,300 | 10,000 | 2,000 | Yes | Yes | - Extra voice usage beyond the plan is **$0.50 per minute**, rounded up to the nearest minute. It can also take table reservations. ## Property leasing Answers renter enquiries with live availability from the property's inventory feed, qualifies the renter, and books tours. ## Professional services and law firms Screens new enquiries, captures the matter details, and routes callers to the right person. --- # Calls, data, and safety Source: https://orangechat.ai/docs/calls-data-and-safety > Recording, AI disclosure, how call data is stored and retained, and what the AI will not do. ## Recording and disclosure - The AI can announce that the call is recorded at the start of every call. This is on by default. - Recordings and transcripts belong to the business. Businesses can listen in the dashboard but may not export recordings, use a caller's voice to build a voice clone or voiceprint, or use recordings in marketing. - OrangeChat does not sell call recordings and does not build voice clones or biometric identifiers from callers' voices. ## What the AI will not do - Make up prices, policies, or availability that are not in the business's information. - Pretend a booking or order went through when it did not. ## Data - Data is stored on AWS in the United States and encrypted at rest. - Account data is deleted 30 days after a subscription is cancelled. - Privacy policy: https://orangechat.ai/privacy. Privacy questions: privacy@orangechat.ai. --- # For AI agents Source: https://orangechat.ai/docs/for-ai-agents > How an AI assistant can help a business owner set up and use OrangeChat, and the machine-readable versions of these docs. This page is for AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Meta Muse, and others) helping a business owner with OrangeChat. ## Read these docs as markdown - Index of every page: https://orangechat.ai/llms.txt - All docs in one file: https://orangechat.ai/llms-full.txt - Any docs page as markdown: add `.md` to its URL, for example https://orangechat.ai/docs/setup-checklist.md ## Connect to the owner's OrangeChat account OrangeChat has a remote MCP server at `https://orangechat.ai/mcp` with OAuth sign-in. See [Connect your AI assistant](https://orangechat.ai/docs/connect-your-ai-assistant), or send the owner the 90-second setup video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQLcA0JXzJQ Once the owner approves: 1. Call `get_business`. If nothing is set up, gather the details in the [Setup checklist](https://orangechat.ai/docs/setup-checklist) from what you know, confirm anything uncertain with the owner, and call `setup_business`. Prices, hours, and policies must be the owner's real ones; the receptionist repeats them to callers. 2. Help the owner choose between a new number and forwarding their existing number ([Phone number and call forwarding](https://orangechat.ai/docs/phone-number-and-forwarding)). 3. The owner picks a plan and phone number in the dashboard (the link is in `get_business`). Payment and phone numbers always need the owner. 4. Keep the receptionist current with `update_business` when hours, services, or contacts change, after confirming with the owner. ## Without a connection The owner can sign up at https://orangechat.ai and enter the [Setup checklist](https://orangechat.ai/docs/setup-checklist) details on the setup page. --- # Connect your AI assistant Source: https://orangechat.ai/docs/connect-your-ai-assistant > Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, or any MCP-capable assistant to OrangeChat, so it can set up your receptionist, keep its details current, and read your calls, transcripts, customers, appointments, and messages. Video walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQLcA0JXzJQ OrangeChat runs a remote MCP server. Add it to your AI assistant, sign in with your OrangeChat account, pick your business, and approve. The assistant can then answer questions like "who called today and what did they want?" from your real call data, and make changes like "we're closed Monday" without you opening the dashboard. New to OrangeChat? Create an account on the sign-in page; your assistant can set up the business for you. **Server URL:** `https://orangechat.ai/mcp` Sign-in uses OAuth: you approve the connection on an orangechat.ai page, and the assistant never sees your password. Each connection is limited to the one business you pick. ## Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app) **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, name it OrangeChat, and paste the server URL. Claude opens the OrangeChat sign-in page the first time you use it. ## Claude Code ```bash claude mcp add --transport http orangechat https://orangechat.ai/mcp ``` Then run `/mcp` in Claude Code and choose **Authenticate**. ## ChatGPT On ChatGPT plans that allow custom connectors, add a new connector, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth as the authentication method. ## Codex Add to `~/.codex/config.toml`: ```toml [mcp_servers.orangechat] url = "https://orangechat.ai/mcp" ``` ## Cursor and other MCP clients Add a remote (Streamable HTTP) MCP server with the URL `https://orangechat.ai/mcp` and OAuth sign-in. ## What the assistant can do You choose on the sign-in page. **Read** is always on; **change settings** is a checkbox. | Tool | Permission | What it does | |---|---|---| | `get_business` | read | The receptionist's settings and whether it is live | | `list_calls` | read | Recent calls: caller, time, length, summary | | `get_call_transcript` | read | The full transcript of one call | | `list_customers` | read | Customers and leads, with status and call count | | `list_appointments` | read | Appointments in a date range | | `get_messages` | read | SMS, email, and chat history with one customer | | `setup_business` | change settings | Creates your business from details you confirm (only if you don't have one yet) | | `update_business` | change settings | Changes hours, greeting, services, transfers, notifications, languages, booking link, or custom questions | Changes to a live receptionist apply from its next call. Every change your assistant makes is logged with what it was before. The assistant **cannot** pay, choose a plan, buy or release a phone number, see your API keys, send messages, or place calls. To make the receptionist live, you pick a plan and a phone number in the dashboard. ## Disconnect **Integrations → Your AI assistant** in the OrangeChat dashboard lists every connected assistant. **Disconnect** stops its access immediately. ## For developers - Protected resource metadata: `https://orangechat.ai/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp` - Authorization server metadata: `https://orangechat.ai/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server` - OAuth 2.1 with PKCE (S256), public clients. Clients register with a Client ID Metadata Document URL or Dynamic Client Registration. - Access tokens last one hour; refresh tokens are rotated on every use.
